PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bidirectional optical module and a bidirectional optical communication method capable of reducing the effect of crosstalk while miniaturizing the whole of the module and simplifying the assembling process by reducing optical elements to the utmost. SOLUTION: In the bidirectional optical module, output light emitted according to a generated drive signal is supplied to an optical fiber capable of bidirectional light transmission and, at the same time, an electric signal is generated according to input light supplied from the optical fiber. The bidirectional optical module is composed of a light emitting element 12 which emits the output light according to the drive signal generated at the time of generating the electric signal, a light receiving element 13 which generates a conversion signal by photoelectrically converting the input light supplied from the optical fiber 17, a delay device 24 which delays the drive signal with a timing corresponding to a return time until the drive signal to be transmitted to the light emitting element 12 is supplied at the same time and the return light in the output light emitted by the light emitting element 12 is received by the light receiving element 13 and an adding device 26 which generates an electric signal by subtracting the drive signal delayed by the delay device 24 from the conversion signal generated by the light receiving element 13.
