PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microscope system in which a user can easily hold a focusing position even with a focusing mechanism using no rack and pinion in mesh. SOLUTION: This microscope system includes the motor-driven focusing mechanism equipped with a microscope body 1, a motor-driven stage 6, an operating section for moving the motor-driven stage, and an operation control section for the motor-driven stage. The motor-driven focusing mechanism can easily hold and release the focusing position by installing, in the operating section, an operation signal generating part which generates a signal while the motor-driven stage is in operation and by installing, in the operation control section, a mechanism which controls the operation of the motor-driven stage through the signal from the operation signal generating part.
