COLOR IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure a dynamic range necessary for density detection of toner images of all colors, and to detect the toner density highly precisely without more complicating an apparatus configuration and a detection control than a conventional method.

SOLUTION: The color image forming apparatus is provided with a density detection apparatus 11 provided with a light emitting element and a light receiving element and detecting the density of a black toner image and a color toner image on an intermediate transfer belt 6 and a control means 15 controlling the density detection apparatus. In the case of detection for the density of the black toner image carried on the intermediate transfer belt 6. The control means 15 controls the driving voltage of the light emitting element so that the amount of received light when the non-image range on the intermediate transfer belt 6 is detected is the first specified amount of received light and in the case of detection for the density of the color toner image carried on an image carrier.
