PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for measuring the similarity of objects based on relations to an object of the same type and an object of different type and the similarity to other objects of these objects. SOLUTION: In an embodiment, a similarity system defines, for each object type, similarity functions among the insides of the type and similarity functions among the types. The similarity system combines similarity functions among the insides of certain types with those among the types to make them the whole similarity function for the type. After the similarity functions are defined, the similarity system collects the attribute values of the objects. The attribute values can include relation data between the objects of the same type (which is called an intra-type relation) and a relation between the objects of different type (which is called an inter-type relation). After the attribute values of the objects are collected, the similarity system solves the similarity functions of the intra-type and inter-type by repeatedly computing the similarity of the objects until the similarity converges on solution.
