PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an extensible material member easy to form, reliable and capable of being electrically heated. SOLUTION: The extensible material member for a thermostat valve comprises a housing 20;48, an extensible material 22;50 arranged in the housing, an operating member 16;52;62 movable relative to the housing when the volume of the extensible material is changed, and a means for electrically operable for heating the extensible material. The means for heating the extensible material includes two electrodes 28, 30;38, 40;42, 44;52, 48;62, 48 for contacting the extensible material. The extensible material is electrically conductive and forms electric resistance.
