PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve inserting performance of an endoscope into a body cavity by hardly catching the mucous membrane of the intestinal wall or the like in between a rotary adapter and an insertion part. SOLUTION: The endoscope 2 comprises the insertion part 11 insertable in the body cavity, and the rotary adapter 8 provided with a large diameter part (an outer diameterΦD2) and small diameter parts (outer diametersΦD,ΦD1) provided on the distal end side rather than the large diameter part, and formed with a continuous spiral protrusion 25 on the respective outer surfaces of the large diameter part and small diameter parts. The rotary adapter 8 is mounted to the insertion tube 11 to apply motive force to the insertion tube 11 by turning of the spiral protrusion 25 while coming in contact with the internal wall of the body cavity.
