A method for guiding print sheets (4) through a non active print stage without risk of smearing fresh print on the sheets has angled rollers (6, 10) mounted on support stalks (7, 8) and held onto the two side edges of the sheets. The sheets are thus prevented from contacting the retracted print roller (2). The front edge of each sheet is held onto the support roller (1) by grips (5) while the trailing end lifts off the support roller due to its stiffness.
