<p>A color display device in which each unit pixel comprises a first sub-pixel and a second sub-pixel that has a color filter and wherein medium, which changes its optical characteristic in accordance with a voltage applied thereto, is placed in each sub-pixel. The color display device further comprises means for applying, to the first sub-pixel, the voltage that modulates the optical characteristic of the medium, placed in the first sub-pixel, in a range where the lightness of a passing light and the hue of chromatic color vary; means for applying, to the second sub-pixel, the voltage that modulates the optical characteristic of the medium, placed in the second sub-pixel, in a range where the lightness of a passing light varies; means for calculating, upon switching of displays, a correction voltage of the second sub-pixel from the voltage applied to the first sub-pixel prior to the switching of the displays and also from the voltage applied to the first sub-pixel after the switching the displays; and means for applying, to the second sub-pixel, a voltage obtained by superimposing a correction voltage on the voltage of the second sub-pixel, in accordance with the display as switched, for a predetermined interval after switching the voltage applied to the first sub-pixel. The colordisplay device mixes, with the color of the second sub-pixel, the chromatic color transiently occurring in the first sub-pixel upon switching of displays so as to provide achromatic color.</p> |
