PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an easy-to-view special reproduction image from a digital signal reproducer for reproducing from such a medium as an optical disk. SOLUTION: The digital video signal reproducer for reproducing video image information encoded based on motion compensated prediction and orthogonal conversion from a recording medium comprises a means for extracting video image information from the recording medium, a means for switching the reproduction mode selectively to any one of normal reproduction mode, a mode for reproducing/displaying any one of odd field or even field, or a mode for reproducing/displaying an odd field or even field while reversing the field arrangement, and a means for decoding/reproducing the video image information being outputted from the video image information extracting means based on the output from the mode switching means.
