PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a YC separation circuit capable of separating a color signal from a brightness signal nearly completely, without performing a complicated movement adaption processing and without being affected by a status or a movement of an input video image. SOLUTION: The YC separation circuit comprises an adaptive color signal sampling portion. The adaptive color signal sampling portion employs a configuration in which a predetermined inter-pixel operation is performed using signals of a target pixel c and adjacent pixels a, b, d, and e centering on the target pixel c, while correction operation for conversion of frequency characteristics is also performed for a color signal extracted by the inter-pixel operation. In the YC separation circuit, a band path filter can be used as the adaptive color signal sampling portion. According to the arrangement, a brightness signal component can be attenuated from a composite video signal drastically, and only a color signal component can be extracted.
