PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stably and easily manufacturing a refractive index dispersion type plastic optical fiber excellent in a transmission frequency bandwidth, and also in long term durability and temperature and humidity durability. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the refractive index dispersion type plastic optical fiber having distribution of refractive indices in the direction of a cross-section perpendicular to the longitudinal center line comprises a core part forming process for polymerizing a polymerization nature composite while rotating the cylinder tube about its axis in the longitudinal directional center line, after having injected the polymerization nature composition into the cylinder tube, and forming the core part of uniform composition in the radial direction from the central part of the cylinder tube up to the circumferential part; and an extension process for extending the preform with the core part at least.
