PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk and an optical disk reproducing device that enable various special reproduction (1/Y-fold speed slow reproduction, X-fold fast reproduction, reverse reproduction, etc.) and high-speed search operation on an optical disk where compressed image data encoded at a variable transfer rate are recorded. SOLUTION: A time code included in a bit stream of image data is recorded in a sub-code area on the optical disk and when special reproduction or searching is performed, the searching for a target sector is carried out while the reproduction position is confirmed from decoded data of a sub-code. Alternatively, a sequence header code is recorded in the sub-code area and when special reproduction is performed, a sequence header code included in decoded data of the sub-code is monitored to read data in GOP (Group of Pictures) units.
