PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk drive capable of ejecting the optical disk when an abnormal state is found, by identifying a kind of the optical disk or the inserted state by a simple mechanism. SOLUTION: When the storing operation of the optical disk 12 is started, on which the information is recorded, a pair of rollers 14, 14 rotates and carries the optical disk 12 which is inserted to an insertion/ejection port 11 on a main body 13 of the optical disk drive 10, to the inside of the main body 13 by holding this disk between the rollers. At this time, the outside diameter, shape or insertion state of the inserted optical disk 12 is detected in such a manner that a periphery 12a of the inserted optical disk 12 is continuously detected by a periphery detecting means 20 prepared inside the main body 13, and when the existence of an abnormal state is determined, the optical disk 12 is ejected.
