PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tile for use in a vertical crosspiece construction method, which has a cut-away surface formed therein, and is engageable with a vertical crosspiece having a large size, to thereby expand the range of usable vertical crosspiece and enlarge a contact area between the vertical crosspiece and transverse crosspiece abutting projection. SOLUTION: The tile serves as a disaster prevention tile. A main body of the tile, having formed therein a ridged tail corner notch and an insertion head corner notch, has a flashing projection and a nail hole formed on and in a front surface thereof, and a hook and the transverse crosspiece abutting projection formed on a rear surface thereof. Then the tile has a transverse crosspiece engaging projection formed on the rear surface, in addition to the transverse crosspiece abutting projection, and the cut-away surface formed in the rear surface near an insertion tail corner.
