PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve heat efficiency by reducing the quantity of heat consumed by a grate. SOLUTION: In the table cooking appliance 1, flames formed upward by the combustion of a burner 14 are spread in the lateral direction (in the radial direction from the center of the burner) during cooking when hitting a central portion on the bottom of a cooking plate P. Combustion gas (including the flames) therefore flows into a plurality of combustion gas passages partitioned in a spiral form and passes therethrough while colliding with a grate pawl 22, and then it is fed to the outside. In this case, the heat of the combustion gas is consumed by the grate pawl 22 and a grate ring 21, but a small quantity of heat is consumed by the grate 20 using a material (ceramics) having a small heat capacity. As a result, the heat energy of the combustion gas which is wastefully used can be reduced to be effectively used for heating the cooking plate P, improving heat efficiency.
