PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high-quality image while reducing the area of a spatial light modulator chip.

SOLUTION: The display system 100 includes at least one light source 102 configured to provide spectrally and spatially resolved light; a spatial light modulator 104 configured to receive and modulate the spectrally and spatially resolved light and to selectively send spatial color selected from the light source 102 to form sets of partial images and at least one scanning device 106 configured to receive the sets of the partial images and to scan the sets of the partial images over the entire part of the display area 115 to create a full-frame color image.
