PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coater capable of controlling occurrence of bubbles in the coating solution and removing bubbles in the solution effectively. SOLUTION: The coater 10 supplies a coating solution L to a coating means 14 from a coating solution tank 12 through a supply pipe 16 and applies the coating solution onto the surface of a band-shaped support running in a coating means while circulating the coating solution by returning the excess of the coating solution supplied to the coating means to the tank 12 through a return pipe 18. A tightly closed container 20 is arranged in the halfway of the supply pipe, and the container has an inlet for inflow of the coating solution from the tank, an outlet for outflow of the coating solution to the coating means arranged in the vicinity of its lower edge and a bypassing port for reflux of the coating solution to the tank arranged in the vicinity of its upper edge.
