The present invention relates to the process for the stepwise synthesis of polymers, especially biopolymers, on a solid support surface comprising the steps of providing a solid support surface having a binding site, applying a first microdroplet of a solution comprising a first polymer building block on said binding site to attach the first polymer building block to the binding site and applying to the modified binding site of the preceding step a second microdroplet of a solution comprising the same or a different polymer building block, wherein the solution contains a solvent with a viscosity of more than 7 mPa . s. The present invention further relates to a biochip obtainable by a process according to an invention and a further aspect to an automated polymer synthesis system for synthesizing on a solid support a polymer chain by sequentially adding polymer building blocks comprising an inkjet print head, a treatment cell, a transport means and a vessel comprising a solution containing a polymer building block. |
