PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to know how image data recorded in a recording medium have been utilized. SOLUTION: When image data read out of the recording medium are recorded into a DVD-R, metadata describing various information items for the image data are recorded together with the image data. When user image data are utilized, the access frequency, display time and the like are added to the metadata to update the metadata. When the image data are read out of the DVD-R into which the image data have been recorded and recorded into a new DVD-R, whether the capacity of the image data is changed, whether the image data are included in images in a slide show form and the like are judged by referring to the metadata.
