PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect damage such as separation on the rolling surfaces of each shaft of a cross shaft in a cross shaft joint incorporated in the driving shaft of rolling equipment or the like, accurately and early on a shaft by shaft basis. SOLUTION: This shaft joint monitoring device is provided for monitoring the cross shaft joint with the four cross shafts 12a having the outer peripheral faces used as the rolling surfaces 12a1. It comprises displacement sensors 151-154 installed corresponding to a rotating direction R of the cross shaft joint 1 for detecting relative displacement between the shaft 12a and a bearing cup 13. In accordance with the detection results of the displacement sensors 151-154, damage on the corresponding rolling surfaces is detected on a shaft by shaft 12a basis. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
