PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a instrument for measuring load which is manually operated, and conveniently and quickly measuring various loads, such as hardness of foods. SOLUTION: The gripping load measuring instrument is provided with a gripper 1, built into a semiconductor load sensor 2 for converting the load into an electrical signal which is proportional to the load, a rod-pushing tool 4 for transmitting the load against an object to be measured to the semiconductor load sensor 2, and a calculation/display section 24 for calculating a load value from the electrical signal and displaying it. The rod-pushing tool 4 is supported by a guide 12, provided in the gripper 1 and moved in the longitudinal direction; and its tip is applied to the measured object; and when the load is applied by the gripper 1, the other tip abuts against a sensing section 7 of the semiconductor load sensor 2.
