PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new reversible photochromic 2H-naphtho[1,2-b]pyran compound. SOLUTION: An example of the compound is the one having the naphtho part of the naphthopyran ring, condensed with an indeno group or some kind of heterocyclic substituent. Some kinds of substituents are present at the 2- and 5-positions and optionally at the 6-position. The organic host material contains the compound or is covered with the compound. The ophthalmic lens or other articles such as a plastic transparent article are obtained by incorporating the new naphthopyran compound or a combination of a complementary photochromic compound, e.g. a spiro(indoline)-type compound, with the compound.
