PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a selective separation method of a semiconductor carbon nanotube which is simple and effective and can treat a large amount of carbon nanotube powder. SOLUTION: In the method for selectively separating only semiconductor carbon nanotube from a mixture of two carbon nanotubes having an electric characteristic such as semiconductive property and metallic property, the mixture of the carbon nanotube is treated with a nitronium ion-containing solution, then filtered and heat-treated to selectively remove a metallic carbon nanotube contained in the carbon nanotube mixture.
