CREATION OF VISUALLY REPRESENTATIVE VIDEO THUMBNAIL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for creating a video thumbnail for a video sequence. SOLUTION: An algorithm identifies a projecting video frame for use as a video thumbnail from a video sequence. Identification of a video thumbnail is based on the excellence of frame. The algorithm calculates the color histogram of a frame, and then calculates entropy of color histogram and standard deviation. The excellence of frame is a weighted combination of entropy and standard deviation. A video frame having a maximum frame excellence in a video sequence is determined as a video thumbnail for a video sequence. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
