Substituted N-pyrimidinyl-N'-thienyl(amino)sulfonylureas as herbicides

N-(1,3,5-Triazin-2-yl or pyrimidin-2-yl)-N'-(thien-3-ylsulfonyl or thien-3-ylaminosulfonyl)-ureas (I) are new. Sulfonylureas of formula (I) and their salts are new. [Image] A : N or CH; Q : direct bond or NH; R 1, R 2H, halo or (all optionally substituted) alkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, mono- or dialkylamino, aryloxy or heterocyclyloxy; R 3H or optionally substituted alkyl; R 4H or optionally substituted alkyl; or may also be H if Q = NH; R 5H or (all optionally substituted) alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkylalkyl or heterocyclyl. An independent claim is included for the preparation of (I). ACTIVITY : Herbicidal. In pre-emergence tests N-(4-methoxy-6-methyl-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)-N'-(4-methoxycarbonyl-2-methyl-thien-3-yl-sulfonyl)-urea (Ia) was well tolerated by crop plants (e.g. cotton, maize and soya) and showed strong activity against weeds (no more detail given).
