The device has an input channel for reading in a pressure signal that changes over time and corresponds to an aorta pressure of a patient or an arterial pressure close to the aorta, as a function of time. An evaluation unit calculates a hemodynamic parameter using the function and a systemic vascular resistance of a heart (7) of the patient. The evaluation unit regularly recalculates the systemic resistance using the function.
