Sliding window assembly with counter balance weight

A window assembly comprises a frame 1, a vertically sliding window 2 and a counter balance mechanism. The counter balance mechanism comprises a weight 3 attached to the window 2 by a cable 4. The counter balance mechanism may be situated in a base below the sliding window 2. The cable 4 may be attached to the window 2, may then pass around two pulleys 6 and attach to the weight 3 via a self levelling system 8. A damping system 12 may be provided to damp the motion of the window 2 at either end of its travel. A sealing system may be provided between the window 2 and its frame 1. The window 2 remains in a position it is put in due to the counter balance weight 3 and the friction between the window 2 and the sealing system. The window assembly may be mounted in an aperture by fixing points 13 arranged around the frame 1.
