A function for an optical device, capable of imaging at any inclination, and a function with which a user can know the inclination. A view field frame with the same shape as an imaging portion is provided at a lens-barrel so as to be rotatable in association with the rotation of the imaging portion. An optical device has a function for detecting the rotation of the imaging portion itself that is rotated in association with the rotation of the view field frame and also detecting the rotation of the imaging portion that is caused by the rotation of the lens-barrel itself occurring when, for example, eye- distance adjustment is made. In image recording, an image is recorded by rotating the view field frame to adjust it to the rotation of the imaging portion. This enables, when the imaging portion is inclined against user's will in eye-distance adjustment, the imaging portion can be returned to a level by rotating the view field frame.
