The present invention provides a payment system using a digital card. The digital card consists of a predetermined image file and a data file storing encrypted card information. The digital card is issued by a card issuing server and downloaded to a user's mobile terminal and loaded on the user's terminal. In response to the user's request, the mobile terminal for loading the digital card outputs an optical signal corresponding to information in the data file. A digital card read device senses the optical signal output from the mobile terminal, converts the sensed optical signal into an electrical signal, and transmits the electrical signal to an external payment terminal or an associated external server. According to the present invention, a plurality of digital cards can be loaded on the mobile terminal without modification of hardware of the mobile terminal and the user can conveniently use the digital cards.
