The invention relates to a method for crowning glass sheets (2), heated to the softening temperature thereof, having the following characteristics: the glass sheets (2) are arranged in a concave crowning frame (3) and pre-crowned under the force of gravity, the pre-crowned glass sheets (2) are transferred on a transfer form (4) with a concave forming surface, the transfer form (4) being displaced upwards across the concave crowning frame (3) with a larger perimeter and thus recovering the glass sheets (2), the transfer form (4) is brought to into the vertical projection of a final crowning form in th form of a frame (5) with a concave forming surface, the transfer form (4) is displaced downwards across the final crowning form (5) with larger perimeter, the glass sheets (2) are placed on the final crowning form (5) and the glass sheets (2) are crowned into the final form thereof. The glass sheets (2) in the final form thereof are transferred from the final crowning form (5) after the crowning operation is finished onto a transport and cooling device. The invention further relates to a device for carrying out said method.
