The plastics, which have reached the end of their useful life, are ground, sorted manually or automatically, and has any impurities removed. The granules are then subjected to cold solubilization in a mixer/reactor after adding some 10 per cent by volume of an ecological activator. The solubilized material is then stored on site before being transferred by tanker to a refinery for conversion into hydrocarbon fuel by cracking. A centre for treating plastics by solubilization would require an area of about 800 sq m, for treating about 30 cu m of plastics per day. It would need a hangar to receive and treat the materials and a secure storage zone of about 30 cu m for about two weeks' of treatment.
|
