The method involves providing an exposing unit e.g. camera, for successive exposures of a same plane. A movement is detected in the exposures, to identify a movement representing shape of a person (IND). An outline form (REC) of the movement representing shape is located. Reduction in height of the form (REC) beyond a chosen threshold interval is detected, where the reduction is representative of a fall of the person. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a computer program product stored in a memory of a processing unit or on a removable medium intended to cooperate with a reader of the processing unit, including instructions for implementing a method of detecting fall of a person (B) a device for detecting fall of a person in restricted autonomy.
