PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a promotor for new pyrazine ring-forming reaction containing an iron compound as an active ingredient and to provide an industrially excellent method for producing a 2-aminopyrazine derivative. SOLUTION: The promotor for pyrazine ring-forming reaction comprises an iron compound as an active ingredient. The method for producing the 2-aminopyrazine derivative represented by general formula I or its acid addition salt comprises reacting a compound represented by general formula IV [wherein R<SP>1</SP>is a hydrogen atom, a 1-6C alkyl or aryl group; R<SP>2</SP>is a hydrogen atom, a 1-6C alkyl group, aryl group or a halogen atom] or its acid addition salt with an aminoacetonitrile compound represented by general formula III [wherein R<SP>3</SP>is a hydrogen atom, a 1-6C alkyl group, an aryl group or an aralkyl group] or its acid addition salt in the presence of an iron compound to produce an N-oxide compound represented by general formula II or its acid addition salt and then reducing the N-oxide compound or its acid addition salt.
