The device has a hollow wheel (1) with inner wheel (2) supported by a crank (4). The crank is mounted rotatable on a rotational axis (5) which coincides with the centre axis of the hollow wheel which is rotationally mounted on an inner wheel axis (6) which when the inner wheel rotates describes a circular path with half hollow wheel diameter whose centre point coincides with the centre axis of the hollow wheel. A follower (7) provided on the inner wheel sets up the translation movement. An independent claim is included for use of device for sledge hammer with drive for driving the crank and a drive piston connected to the follower. Independent claim describes sledge hammer with housing and device with drive for driving crank.
