<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element such as an objective lens for an optical pickup, an optical element that is simple, small-sized, and capable of inexpensively satisfying rigidity required for the optical pickup, by utilizing a fixed part properly installed in a part of the optical element for the purpose of fixing the optical element having at least one optically operating reflection area. <P>SOLUTION: The objective lens 1 as the optical element for an optical pickup is provided with an optically operating incident area, at least one optically operating reflection area, and an optically operating light-emitting area, and is intended for the purpose of converging a luminous flux on an optical recording medium. The objective lens 1 is provided, outside the optically operating areas, with objective lens flanges 1a, 1b, 1c which are projecting fixed parts.
