FORMULATION FOR TREATING INFECTIOUS DISEASE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-toxic formulation of long stability and high efficacy, slight in the side effects of an aminoglycoside as an antibiotic effective for treating infectious diseases. SOLUTION: This formulation for inhibiting bacterial proliferation applies a liposomal aminoglycoside that comprises a neutral lipid, a negatively charged lipids and a sterol. The formulation contains unilamellar vesicles having an average size below 100 nm. A method for preparing liposomes containing an aminoglycoside is provided where the hydration temperature is significantly below the transition temperature of the formulation. This formulation is effectively used for the treatment of drug-susceptible and drug-resistant bacteria. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
