PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microwave near-field optical microscope for improving the sensitivity and resolution, by connecting a probe to a dielectric resonator and minimizing the influence of the temperature and the external environment. SOLUTION: The near-field optical microscope utilizing the dielectric resonator comprises a wave source for adjusting the frequency of the output waves; the dielectric resonator for freely adjusting the resonance frequency, impedance, Q factors, and electromagnetic wave modes, while the waves emitted from the wave source advance; the probe for irradiating a sample with waves that advance through the dielectric resonator; a distance adjustment section for maintaining the distance between the probe and the sample at a prescribed value, by measuring the distance between the probe and the sample; and a detection section for detecting the waves that have mutually interacted with the sample, after being propagated through the probe and then advance through the probe and the dielectric resonator.
