PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of obtaining a normal image without giving any notice to a user even when a reference white board is slightly stained. SOLUTION: The image reader comprises a reference white board data capturing part 1 which captures reference white board data, a heavy addition averaging arithmetic processing part 2 which performs heavy addition averaging operation for the captured reference white board data, and a CPU 3 which performs heavy addition averaging operation again using the averaging value of all lines of the reference white board data used for the weighted addition averaging operation when the number of lines is smaller than a specified number in performing weighted addition averaging operation for data of a certain pixel.
