PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of improving a developing performance at forming an image by a multiple developing system, and also, preventing different color toner from being mixed in a developing means at forming second and subsequent color images and preventing irregularities in a toner image formed on an image carrier. SOLUTION: A developer oscillating field for oscillating developer lying in a counter plane between a developing sleeve 31x and the image forming drum 4 in a direction nearly different from a developing toner scattering direction 15. The developer oscillating field is an alternating electric field generated by applying an AC voltage between an electrode 13a and an electrode 13b by an AC power source 21. By applying a DC voltage between the developing sleeve 31x and the image forming drum 4 by a DC power source 22, a one-way electric field is formed, and the developing toner 12 is scattered by the one-way electric field toward the image forming drum 4.
