PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology of measuring free radicals for monitoring free radical generating reaction (free radical elimination reaction) for controlling the reaction conditions and optimizing a product having the free radical generation/elimination reactions. SOLUTION: In a reaction system comprising a magnetic field generating section for generating magnetic field within a predetermined range, an ESR measuring section provided adjacent to the magnetic field generating section, and containing a measuring material connected in liquid-tight manner to the ESR measuring section, a medium is made to be distributed to the reaction system. The free radical generation reaction is induced in the presence of a material, having a predetermined free radical spin trapping action. Free radicals are generated by the material having the spin trap action and are trapped. The medium, containing the trapped free radicals, is distributed to an ESR cell, and the ESR apparatus measures the peak intensity of the electron spin spectrum of the free radicals generated by the reaction system.
