PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize at low cost, elimination of instability in a high-repetition frequency pulse light source to be used in a high-speed/long-distance optical fiber communication system, miniaturization thereof, function of locking to a communication path data rate, wavelength varying function and multi-wavelength pulse generation. SOLUTION: A passive mode synchronous optical fiber laser uses a Fabry-Perot resonator, having a high gain optical fiber and a saturable absorber, an exciting laser diode, and a coupler for coupling outputs of the laser diode. A carbon nanotube is used as the saturable absorber, and this carbon nanotube is to be used as a device by being laminated on the end face of a polished optical fiber or being dispersed in resin or glass, thereby solving the above issue.
