PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface sheet of an absorbent article quickly absorbing excreted liquid and swiftly moving it to an absorbent body positioned thereunder. SOLUTION: This surface sheet 1 of the absorbent article is constituted by superposing an upper layer fiber layer 2 abutting on the skin on a lower layer fiber layer 3 abutting on the absorbent body. The hydrophilicity of the upper layer 2 is weaker than that of the lower layer 3, which forms a hydrophilicity gradient in the thickness direction. When compared between the superposed parts of the upper/lower layers 2 and 3, the liquid absorbing area of the lower layer 3 is smaller than the liquid absorbing area of the upper layer 2.
