DSL MODEM APPARATUS AND METHOD OF CONTROLLING SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To save power by automatically controlling the on/off of a power source in accordance with the working situation of a PC without pressing MODEM power source operation on a user.

SOLUTION: In a user home side ATU-R in a data communicable state by establishing connection with ATU-C, when a connector voltage of a connector 117 to which a user home side network cable 406 is connected is detected by a voltage detection circuit 201 and the connector voltage is lower than a threshold in the state of supplying power to an ADSL circuit 100 of the ATU-R, power supply to the ADSL circuit 100 is stopped while maintaining functions associated with connector voltage detection and power source control. Even after power supply is stopped, the connector voltage is monitored and if the detected connector voltage exceeds the threshold, power supply to the ADSL circuit 100 is started again.
