PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for dividing a data storage device in a multiple disk array into components so as to be able to convert. SOLUTION: A carrier 204 holding a circuit substrate 116 and one or more data storage devices 104 in a multiple disk array 201 comprises a partition 212 having a channel surface restricting a pipe type closed path 402. The channel surfaces 220, 222, 224, 226 are circumscribed to a cross section of the data storage device with supporting correspondent relation. The carrier comprises further a means for pressing the data storage device in the path to the circuit substrate. In a method for supporting the plurality of storage devices in the multiple disk array, carriers from a plurality of different carriers in which difference is provided by an intrinsic array of closed channels of a pipe type for supporting by engaging with the data storage device are given, one or more data storage devices are inserted into channels of respective numbers restricting multiple disk arrays, and the carrier is inserted into shelf.
