PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a segment type vertical shaft casing which enables the construction of a large-size manhole, which enables safe connecting operation, and which is resistant even to ground deformation. SOLUTION: In this segment type vertical shaft casing, a circular casing 1 made of concrete, which is to be pressed into the ground by all around turning or oscillation, is composed of segments 1A and 1B which can be circumferentially split into a plurality of pieces via vertically split surfaces, and a steel plate 3 is used for an outer periphery. The vertically split surface of the segments 1A and 1B are joined together by means of a bolt 7; a cut-off groove 8 is provided in the upper and lower joints of the segments 1A and 1B so that the segments can be formed in a ring shape when assembled in the circumferential direction; and a cut-off ring 9 is attached to the cut-off groove 8, so that water can be cut off.
