PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a preservation material for water areas where a mineral component can be eluted from the inside of a slag to its outside and having a high capability to fix hydrogen sulfide or phosphorus. SOLUTION: The environmental preservation material for water areas is characterized that it contains the slag from a steel making process where a film consisting of a carbonate is not formed on its surface. The environmental preservation material is used as a sand covering material, a recovery material for recessed sea bottoms, a seashore maintenance material, a tidal flat material, a shoal material, a sea weed bed material, a fishery material or the like.
