Process to operate an automotive fuel injection system by checking for misfire and rectification

In a process to operate a fuel injected automotive piston engine, fuel is injected directly into a combustion chamber. A monitoring system detects the incidence of a misfire (38, 42) the system triggers an interruption (44) to operation of the fuel injector to the respective combustion chamber. The interruption is a response to a lambda sensor and/or a fuel pressure sensor (46) and checks the effectiveness of the interruption command.
