<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an encoding method for realizing high encoding efficiency and high quality encoding even if a picture is present in which a scene change occurs inside an interlace frame. <P>SOLUTION: In a moving image encoding method in which a frame of an interlace image input signal is defined as a picture and a picture is included to predict and encode said picture from both a forward picture of temporal past and a backward picture of future for the unit of macro block, when performing encoding by prediction from both the pictures, inter-field motion prediction is performed for the unit of a field resulting from dividing the pictures into odd or even pixel scans of the frame for the unit of the macro block. As a prediction mode, it is selectively switched for each picture whether one field uses prediction from a motion vector of the forward field and whether another field uses prediction from a motion vector in the backward field. A predictive image is generated in accordance with the selected prediction mode, and the generated predictive image is used to encode the input signal. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
