PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify procedures for maintenance work performed in a shaft of elevator facilities. SOLUTION: An elevator 1 is provided with an inspection controller 7 attached to an upper face 5 of a cage 4 and allowing access through a movable controller cover 8, prevention means 15, 20, 18 for preventing travel of the cage into a safety space 24 in the shaft 2 selectively, and an operation means 12 for operating the prevention means 15, 20, 18. The operation means 12 is constituted to move simultaneously with the controller cover 8. Consequently, when a maintenance worker opens the controller cover 8 and moves the cage 4 using the inspection controller 7, this temporary safety space 24 is automatically formed in the shaft 2.
