PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens barrel having excellent mobility by reducing the total length of the lens in a collapsed state, and to provide an optical instrument having the lens barrel. SOLUTION: The lens barrel has a lens barrel member which moves against a fixed lens barrel by rotation of a cam ring in the optical axis direction in the range from a collapsed state to an imaging state. A holding frame to hold a lens and a linear driving unit to drive the holding frame in the optical axis direction by a coil and a magnet are disposed in the rear side of the lens barrel member.
